Purpose of the GSR Committee:
At GSR Committee meetings GSR reports provide perspectives on group growth vital to the fellowship as a whole. This group provides a channel of two-way communication between the groups and the GSR Committee. If a group is having problems, its GSR can share those problems with the committee in his or her reports. And suppose the group hasn’t found solutions to those problems. In that case, the GSR Committee chairperson will open a slot on the committee’s agenda so that the GSR can air the issue and receive experience and suggestions. The GSR Committee Chairperson provides a report to the GSB during GSB meetings.
Role and responsibilities of a Group Service Representative (GSR):
Each group elects one group service representative; even those groups hosting more than one meeting elect just one GSR. GSRs provide ongoing, active influence over the discussions being carried on within the service structure by
➢ Attending monthly General Service Board (GSB) meetings
➢ Participating in the GSB GSR Committee meetings,
➢ Attending the World Service Conference,
➢ Joining in the work of GSB committees
➢ Encourage group members to join a GSB committee
➢ GSR report provides the group with a summary of GSB and GSB GSR committee meetings, activities, and financial reports, often sparking discussions among group members that provide the GSR with a feel for how the Board and GSB committee can better serve the group’s needs.
Suggested GSR qualifications:
➢ Attendance in their meeting/group at least six months
➢ Having a UA Sponsor
➢ Having completed up to Step 6 in UA with a UA Sponsor who has completed the 12 Steps in UA
➢ At least six months of solvency as defined by the group they represent
➢ Willingness to commit to two years of service in the role
➢ Willingness to give at least six hours a month to service in attending the GSB, GSB GSRC, and one committee meeting.
Underearning is many things, not all of which are about money. While the most visible consequence is the inability to provide for one’s needs, including future needs, underearning is also about the inability to fully acknowledge and express our capabilities and competencies.
